American Weddings

Mr. and Mrs. Smith are pleased to say that their daughter is engaged. Paula Smith and Josh Hill will marry on October 23, 2010. The Smith family lives in Hope Lake. The bride-to-be graduated from Miller University in 2003 and is now an elementary school teacher. Mr. Hill's family lives in Little Town. The groom-to-be also graduated from Miller University. He is police officer in Little Town. The couple's fall wedding will take place at Hope Lake Church.

When Americans get married, friends and family members give gifts to the bride and groom. They do not ususally give cash to the couple. How do friends and families know
what gifts to give? Because the bride registers at a department store or a "home store". A home store sells things for the home. When a bride registers, she makes a list of the things she wants. For example, a bride may put towels, sheets, dishes, or a microwave on her list. Then people choose one of the gift and buy it for the couple.
